Frequently Asked Questions
Pilates is a series of slow, controlled body conditioning exercises that target the deep abdominal and postural muscles known as the Core. The workout is aimed to improve flexibility, develop control, and build on strength and endurance while encouraging the mind-body connection.
The syllabus of exercises are named after its founder Joseph Pilates who developed them in the early 1900’s.
You can do Pilates every day if you like! But practicing 1-2 times a week can provide a nice balance to your other physical activities.
Yes. Reformer Pilates involves using a machine with springs to do Pilates exercises. The reformer is about 8 feet long and 2 feet wide. Mat Pilates on the other hand doesn’t require this piece of equipment and can be done on a mat, as you would do yoga.
You do not need to bring any equipment to class. The instructors provide all the equipment you need.
Pilates is a very intentional and precise type of movement. Pilates can help with back pain as it works to sequence muscle activation and develop a strong core.
Yes, you can. You will need to inform your instructor of your injuries and any limitations. Most Reformer Pilates exercises can be modified or adjusted to work with your injuries.
There are certain limitations on which exercises you can engage in when pregnant or soon after birth. It’s best to consult with your health professional on what’s best for you.
While both Pilates and yoga offer benefits for physical fitness and mental clarity, yoga has a broader spiritual and philosophical component, whereas Pilates is more focused on physical conditioning and body alignment.
If you would like to wear socks or sticky socks, please do so. If you would like to do the class barefoot, please do so.
The Reformer Pilates room has its own settings for heating and cooling as well as its own lighting system. After every class, each pilates participant sprays down each piece of equipment they have used with a disinfecting solution and wipes it clean with a towel just as you might clean other gym equipment.
