Get to Know Massage Therapy at Mayfair Clubs

What Is a Massage Therapist?

A Massage Therapist, commonly referred to as an RMT, is regulated by the College of Massage Therapists of Ontario, under the Regulated Health Professions Act, which governs all Health Care Practitioners in Ontario.

What is Massage Therapy?

Massage therapy involves the manual soft tissue release of various muscles and tendons throughout the body. The primary goals are to enhance joint mobility, improve overall flexibility, and alleviate pain and tension associated with the muscles and joints.

Massage therapy offers benefits across a spectrum of musculoskeletal disorders linked to physical overuse, general stress, poor posture, improper physical form, and chronic physiological syndromes. Whether the condition is acute, sub-acute, or chronic, massage therapy plays an important role in aiding the healing process for a wide range of illnesses, rehabilitating injuries, and addressing disabilities.

Manual release techniques encompass hands-on massage, mobilizations, and stretching. By incorporating various methods, massage therapy not only provides relief but also contributes to the holistic well-being of individuals, promoting physical health and restoring balance.

Examples of some of the frequent conditions that we regularly encounter and treat at Mayfair Clubs include:

  • Muscle Tension & Spasms
  • Tendinitis & Tendinopathies
  • Rotator Cuff Injuries
  • Sprains & Strains
  • Sciatica and Low Back Pain
  • Headaches
  • Whiplash and Cervical Discomfort
  • Pregnancy and Post-Partum
  • Stress and Stress-related Conditions
  • Pre & Post Surgery

In addition, Massage Therapy can also assist with other non-sports related conditions including but not limited to:

How Often Do I Need Massage Therapy?

Your RMT, in collaboration with you, will develop a comprehensive treatment plan, taking into account your detailed health history, assessment results, and personal short-term and long-term goals. This personalized plan serves as the foundation for an effective preventative and maintenance program.

For most healthy individuals seeking preventative care, I recommend scheduling regular visits with an RMT once every 3-5 weeks. However, in cases of acute or chronic conditions, more frequent appointments may be necessary. Regular treatments play a crucial role in identifying and addressing acute injuries before they escalate into serious chronic pain. This proactive approach is especially beneficial for conditions like repetitive strain injuries including tennis elbow, rotator cuff strain, or hip flexor pain.

To complement the in-clinic treatments, exercises and home-care tasks may be prescribed based on individual needs. By adhering to your personalized plan and incorporating recommended practices into your routine, you can optimize your well-being and minimize the risk of recurring issues.

Are There Any Age Restrictions for Massage Therapy?

RMTs can provide their care to clients spanning a wide age spectrum, from as young as 6 months to those in their Golden years.

Following a review of the client’s detailed health history, and a collaborative discussion, we will develop a treatment plan that aligns with the client’s specific needs and preferences. This ensures that the massage therapy approach is not only effective but also tailored to the unique requirements of each individual, regardless of their age.

Is Mayfair Clubs A Welcoming Space?

The short answer is “YES”.

I am committed to providing inclusive care, welcoming individuals of all ages, genders, backgrounds, and beliefs. Our practice is a safe and supportive space for the LGBTQ2+ community.

Our treatment tables are equipped with electric features, allowing for height adjustment and tilting. These functionalities are designed to accommodate individuals with disabilities or specific health conditions, ensuring that everyone can benefit from our massage therapy services comfortably and effectively.

I Have Questions!

How ‘deep’ is deep pressure or deep tissue massage? How much clothing do I need to remove? How will I be draped or undraped? How long should I book for? Is it painful? What if I’m self-conscious? What if I have questions?

It is my commitment to providing the best possible experience, so I encourage open communication. If you ever have questions or concerns, I invite you to ask so that any uncertainties can be promptly addressed. My goal is to ensure that you have accurate information, dispelling any general misconceptions surrounding massage.

Your privacy is respected, and any information shared remains strictly confidential. Nothing is undertaken without your full cooperation and informed consent. I want to create a safe and supportive environment where you can receive the care you need with confidence and peace of mind.
