Tennis Update

Tennis Blast presented by Head Racquets

On January 24, 2024, Mayfair West hosted 32 players for our Tennis Blast presented by Head Racquets. This sold out event featured a 2-hour tennis clinic in the morning with all participants learning new skills for doubles play.  All players then had a one hour break for some rest and enjoyed a smoothie from our Bistro to rejuvenate themselves.

The afternoon featured a 2-hour round robin tournament with two divisions.

Congratulations to our winners of Division #1, Jessica Rakowski and Nancy Cappel along with our winners of Division #2, Paul Silvertown and Martin Petrin.

All players then gathered in the West Bistro for an incredible feast, awards and some tennis chatter and laughs.

Mayfair West Starter Tour | Family Day Weekend 

Mayfair West Starter Tour events are ideal for junior tennis players looking to get introduced to the competitive structure.

We will be hosting a tournament on Family Day Long weekend for Mayfair members are junior participants only. Each one-day event offers a minimum of three scheduled matches per participant as well as a welcome package courtesy of Mayfair Clubs.

The entry fee is $60 + HST per player and the entry deadline is Mon. Feb. 12th at noon. To enter, please send an e-mail to jweissman@mayfairclubs.com with the child’s full name and date of birth.

NOTE: Players that have a Tennis Canada ranking of #99 or better in any age category will not be eligible for this tournament. Age restrictions are also in place to ensure that the level of competition is fair. Boys and girls will compete in separate tournaments, but genders may be combined if entries are low.

Below is the schedule for each day:

• Saturday February 17, 12:30-6:30pm
  • Boys U14 and Girls U14 (must be born in 2010, 2011, 2012 or 2013)
  • Maximum 6 boys and 6 girls will be accepted
• Sunday February 18, 11:30am-5:30pm
  • Boys U18 and Girls U18 (must be born in 2006, 2007, 2008 or 2009)
  • Maximum 6 boys and 6 girls will be accepted

Mayfair West Challenge Ladder – Winter/Spring 2024

Looking to play singles matches with players of a similar level? Sign up for the co-ed Mayfair West Challenge Ladder, where you’ll be grouped with four or five other players to play monthly matches. The February/March ladder month runs from February 20^th to March 25^th, with the last month running from March 26^th to April 29th. The cost to join is $40 + HST and the entry deadline for the Feb/March ladder is Sunday, March 24th at 11:59pm.

We offer a variety of group tennis programming throughout the week for a variety of levels of play from beginner to advanced. The 20/20 workout is a constantly changing workout formatted in two, 20-minute segments finishing with a stretch cool down. Swim Updates

Swim Camps | Registration Now Open 

Our Splash & Laugh Camps include recreational swimming and sports. Campers will participate in water sports and games as well as one hour of formal swimming lessons with certified instructors. 

Swim lessons are done in a group setting with a 1:6 ratio and include stroke correction, body buoyancy, and in-water skill development. Campers will learn to strengthen their swimming skills in a fun and safe environment. Campers are not required to have any swimming experience and will be separated into groups based on skills. 

Life jackets are provided and will be placed on campers at lower levels and removed throughout the lesson as this is part of the Lifesaving course criteria. When not in the pool, campers will be playing a variety of indoor sports and games such as relay races, soccer, parachute play, freeze tag, kickball, and dance games to name a few. 

Lunch is provided for full-day and half-day morning campers.  Snacks are not provided, so we ask that campers bring nut-free snacks for them to enjoy throughout the day.

In this master’s class, the main focus is fitness, endurance, and efficiency. Swimmers must have a strong ability to perform front crawl, back crawl, and breaststroke.  Instructors will create workouts that include drills, sprints, and hypoxic training. Adult Pickleball Program Updates

The Facilities

We are now close to the end of our fifth month with our new pickleball courts at Mayfair West.  It has been so great to see how many people have been enjoying the courts, programs, lessons and casual play.

This past week, we completed the task of adding blue mats to the back wall.  We still are awaiting the arrival of a custom made vinyl screen that will separate the pickleball courts from tennis court 2.

Player Ratings

We have been listening to you about many of our programs and one of the constant concerns is players registering for programs that are not at their level.  You must register for programs that are within your club rating skill level.  In the event you register for a program higher than your skill rating, you will be removed from that program and the app will send you an email informing you that you have been removed.

The best way to improve is to play with players of a similar level.  The rallies will last longer, it allows you time to work on your dinks, your serve, movement, etc., with the ball moving at a pace that suits you.

From time to time, we will be updating members ratings.  We also will be incorporating the ratings from pickleballbrackets.com for those members playing in our competitive ladder league play.

If you are not rated yet, we need to get you rated ASAP to join into our programs, check out the Mayfair app for ratings clinics, just $10.00 plus HST for an hour. We will be adding more rating clinics during the day, evenings and weekends.

Changes to Adult Clinics

1. We added a new 2.75 + competitive ladder league play on Wednesdays at 7:30-9:30pm on the app, starts this week, registration open.
2. We adjusted the level of the Friday 9:30am to 11:30am competitive ladder league to 2.75+
3. We adjusted the level of the Friday 11:30am to 1:30pm competitive ladder league to 3.25+
4. We will be adding a TEAM event for players 3.5+. Details to follow.

Mayfair West Junior Pickleball – Winter/Spring 2024

Registration for term 2 of our Junior Pickleball program (which runs January 9^th to April 13th) is now open. We offer classes at an 8:1 ratio for kids aged 8-11 and 11-14.

Ages 8-11 will have classes offered on Tuesdays 4:30-5:30pm and Saturdays 12:30-1:30pm. Ages 11-14 will have classes offered on Tuesdays 5:30-6:30pm and Saturdays 1:30-2:30pm.
